Storage Of Your Accent Quilt

  • Clean your quilt before storing to prevent any dirt from forming stains.

  • When folding fabric stress is put on the fibers. Therefore, it’s best to roll it to avoid some of that stress.

  • Start with folding your quilt in half lengthwise with the backing out. We recommend this in case something causes the fabric to discolor. This way it’s on the back and not the front of your quilt.

  • Then proceed with folding it in thirds, also lengthwise.

  • Start at the top with a gentle fold of 8-12”. From here, lightly roll the quilt up.

  • It can be stored in a clean white cotton sheet, pillowcase or archival storage container in a dark, dry place. This protects it from dirt and sunlight while allowing the fabric to breath.

  • Do not store it in plastic as this will hold moisture in and anything the plastic may give off.

  • If storing your quilt in a wood chest, be sure the wood is sealed and that you have a layer of fabric between the wood and your quilt.

  • Then, every 6-12 months the quilt should be opened up and either laid flat or hung up until the folds lay flat. This will help prevent the folds from becoming permanent creases.
