Rhubarb Festival 2018

World's Only Rhubarb Race Car Derby Revs Up Kitchen Kettle Village's 35th Annual Rhubarb Festival on May 18th and 19th

Intercourse, PA, May 10, 2018- Racing derby cars made out of rhubarb stalks is just one of the highlights of the annual Kitchen Kettle Village Rhubarb Festival on May 18th and 19th.  The popular Village is the only place in the world where guests can create their own rhubarb derby car and race it for a possible cash prize. This year’s two day Festival features the derby along with a Whoopie Pie Filling Contest, the crowning of an official Rhubarb King and Queen, the Rollicking Rhubarb Stroll, a Rhubarb Dessert Contest, cheese stretching, fascinator making demonstration, lots of samples, delicious and creative rhubarb foods in all the eateries, strolling comedians, several bands including The Roof Rockers (a 50’s-60’s band), Summit Hill Bluegrass Band, The Dreadnought Brigade Band, Nick DiSanto-The One Man Band and more, as well as other activities for the whole family.

 

This event precedes many other “Free at KKV” Events and Festivals slated for the year such as The new Splash Into Summer event (benefiting Music For Everyone) on Saturday, June 16th, Yummie’s Birthday Bash on Saturday, August 4th and the Tailgating Festival on September 14th and 15th.

Friday, May 18th, 9am-6pm

 

•      11am-1pm – The Rampart Street Ramblers Dixieland band performing at the stage area

  • 11am-1pm—Main Street Jazz performing at the top of the Village
  • 11am and 2pm—Cheese Stretching demonstrations at Aged & Cured
  • Noon – Rhubarb Whoopie Pie Filling Contest at the stage area-participants needed
  • Noon-2pm – Strolling comedian Geist
  • 1pm - Fascinator Making Demonstration at the stage area
  • 2pm-5pm – The Dreadnought Brigade performing at the stage area
  • All Day – Meet our rhubarb expert for helpful rhubarb cooking tips
  • All Day – Rhubarb food sampling & fresh rhubarb for sale
  • All Day - Vote for your Best Dressed Employee at various locations throughout the Village
  • All Day – Rhubarb jams being made in the Jam & Relish Kitchen

 

Saturday, May 19th, 9am-6pm

 

  • 10am – “Bake a Pie… Save a Farm – Best Rhubarb Dessert in Lancaster County Baking Contest” featuring celebrity judges. Dessert slices are sold following the competition. All proceeds benefit the Lancaster Farmland Trust
  • 11am-3pm – Rhubarb Race Car Derby to benefit Lancaster Farmland Trust – races held at 11am, Noon and 3pm
  • 11am and 2pm—Cheese Stretching demonstrations at Aged & Cured
  • 11:30am – Crowning of the official Rhubarb King & Queen at the stage area during “halftime” of the baking contest judging.
  • 11:30am-1:30pm – Nick DiSanto, the One Man Band, performing at the top of the Village
  • 11am-1pm— Purchase a glass of Rhubarb Sangria at Waltz Vineyards
  • Noon-2pm – Balloon twisting for the kids with the “Balunguy”
  • Noon-2:30pm – Summit Hill Band performing bluegrass favorites at the stage
  • 2pm – Rollicking Rhubarb Stroll (too small to be called a parade) featuring musicians, costumed characters, Kitchen Kettle’s own pink ladies & the Rhu-Barbette’s & Magenta Gentlemen (girls & boys under the age of 10 years old), the Rhubarb King & Queen, baton twirlers and more
  • 2:30-5:30pm –The Roof Rockers (a 50’s-60”s band) performing at the stage
  • All Day – Meet our rhubarb expert with helpful rhubarb cooking tips
  • All Day – Rhubarb food sampling & fresh rhubarb for sale
  • All Day – Rhubarb jams being made in our Jam & Relish Kitchen
