The upcoming week is a special one here at Kitchen Kettle Village. If you are a village veteran, you know exactly why… it’s the Rhubarb Festival! Kitchen Kettle Village’s Rhubarb festival takes place Friday, May 21st and Saturday, May 22nd this year. The Rhubarb Festival is a celebrated tradition that has taken place throughout the village for over 30 years. The village comes alive with the sweet smell of rhubarb jam and pies while fun can be found around every corner.
Due to the Coronavirus, we had to take last year off for the Rhubarb Festival, but we are back and better than ever this year! The Rhubarb Festival is a great opportunity to get out and have some worry free fun since most of the festival fun can be found outdoors.
Activities of all kinds will be taking place during the festival this year. With live entertainment at our stage, the world’s only Rhubarb Race Car Derby, and the crowning of our very own Rhubarb King and Queen, there is an endless amount of fun for all ages. We will not be hosting the Annual Rhubarb Baking Contest due to COVID, however we will be sharing plenty of recipes online so you can practice for the 2022 edition. Click here for rhubarb recipes.
There will be a variety of snacks and treats available throughout the village as well. As you make your way through Kitchen Kettle, swing by Pepper Lane Fudge and Sweets for a variety of rhubarb treats such as Peanut Butter and Strawberry- Rhubarb Jam cups and homemade Strawberry-Rhubarb marshmallows dipped in chocolate. If sweets aren’t your thing, stop by Waltz Vineyards for a taste of their famous Strawberry Rhubarb Sangria or the Harvest Cafe for a “Rhub-Q” sandwich, a delicious take on the classic pulled pork barbecue sandwich.
Wondering what the highlights of the festival are? Want to know some of the “must-see” events? Well here’s a few writer’s tips.
1. Don’t miss out on ANY food items, everything is delicious!
2. Make sure to be down at the stage for our 50’s band The Roof Rockers on Saturday 5/22 between 2:30 and 5:30, they are loads of fun and can’t be missed.
3. Enter into the Rhubarb Derby! It’s fun for parents, kids, couples, grandparents, or anyone else. Create your own Rhubarb car and race it down the track for your chance to win one of many Kitchen Kettle prizes.
4. Vote for Rhubarb Royalty! Every festival year, two of our team members are crowned Rhubarb King & Queen. Voting for your favorite candidate online is a great way to get involved, and then you can catch them for the crowning ceremony at our stage at 11:30 Saturday or the Promenade at 2:00 Saturday as well.
We can’t wait to see you for the 38th annual Rhubarb Festival! Click here for the full schedule of events.
