The Newlywed's Chocolate Cake & Peanut Butter Icing Recipe


Scrumptious Chocolate Cake


  • Chocolate Cake:
  • 1¾ cup sugar
  • ¾ cup cocoa
  • 1 ¾ cup flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup applesauce (I use a no sugar added version)
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • Peanut Butter Icing:
  • 1 stick butter (soft)
  • 2/3 cup peanut butter
  • 2-3 cup 10x sugar
  • 1 tbsp. vanilla
  • 1 tbsp. milk


For the Cake: Mix all your dry ingredients together. Add the milk, eggs, applesauce and vanilla and mix just until blended. Add the boiling water and mix just until blended (batter will be warm and runny when you pour it into your pan). Grease a 9x13 pan. Heat your oven to 350 and bake for 30 minutes. Let cake cool completely before topping with icing.

For the Icing: Add the butter, peanut butter, 10x sugar and vanilla. Beat on high for 1-2 minutes. Add milk and beat for 5 more minutes (a stand up mixer helps to create extra creamy/fluffy icing but I used a hand held until I got married which works just fine).
